The Sligo Brand

Sligo has a visual system, a visual identity that organises and simplifies communication with the citizens, bringing together all stakeholders.

Overall Concept

In the logotype for the Sligo Brand the O represents Optimism, Opportunity, Openness and Unity, key words taken from the various workshops. The O has many visual meanings, the circle represents a central point, a coming together of many items into one place. The circle is broken up in to sections to represent all stakeholders, citizens and organisations living in Sligo county.

The graphic treatment and layered shape in the O is also representative of a shell which Sligo is named after in Irish (Sligeach).

The Dot

A full stop by definition is used as a punctuation mark at the end of a declarative sentence. So its purpose in the Sligo brand design is to signify a declaration of finality and urgency, this is Sligo, you have arrived. Sligo is here, proud and ready to make the promise to aim for world class.

Typography

Nexa Slab is a geometric slab serif font used in the logotype. The type personality is proud, strong, rigid like the landscape, it is rounded and open at the same time, in order to compliment the shape of the segmented O. The colour in the Typography is a deep rich grey to represent strength and to also compliment colours from the Sligo crest and Sligo Tourism brands.

Colours

The colours used in the circle/O of this brand represent the various stakeholders that it represents. In particular the deep red and red/orange are taken from Sligo set your spirts free and the deep red from the Sligo crest. The gradient colours indicate change and evolution, this graphic treatment reflects the changing light and colours in the Sligo landscape.

The greens promote LIVE Sligo, communities, landscape and growth.

The blues promote INVEST Sligo, work, develop and industry.

The reds/pinks promote VISIT Sligo, tourism agencies.
