The two local authorities serving the region are Sligo Borough Council (Sligo City) and Sligo County Council (Sligo County). The Sligo Local Authorities have a pivotal role to play through their many developmental, planning and investment roles, and the delivery of major infrastructural projects underpins the continuing growth and development of Sligo.

Sligo County Development Board is meeting the challenge of delivering ‘joined up thinking’ and action among local agencies in terms of economic, social and cultural development. One of the main objectives of the board is develop Sligo’s profile to ensure that the county is profiled as an attractive place to visit, live, work and invest in. Sligo’s attractive location and its pool of creative talent are highlighted by the Board as unique assets of the county.

Sligo County Community Forum actively supports and encourages community and voluntary groups to reach their full potential and works to promote Sligo on an economic, social and cultural level in partnership with the various local regional and national agencies
