County Sligo is well served with the Department of Education & Skills funding 71 primary and 15 second level schools in the County catering for some 11,500 pupils

IT Sligo Logo  Sligo Institute of Technology is a higher education institution that plays a central role in the socio-economic development of the North-West region.

The Institute provides a range of third level programmes in Science, Engineering and Business & Humanities through undergraduate level to Masters and PhD. A number of apprenticeship programmes are delivered in a dedicated engineering facility.

St Angelas Logo St. Angela’s College, Sligo, is a college of the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUI Galway) offering University-level education and research in the North West of Ireland. Established in 1952, St Angela’s College, Sligo is a growing and dynamic college on the shores of Lough Gill, County Sligo with a suite of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes along with Access foundation courses, the Access Schools Programme and adult & continuing education.
The three academic departments of Education, Nursing & Health Studies and Home Economics, provide programmes in special educational needs, theology and religious education, Gaeilge, education studies, home economics, food science, biology, economics, general nursing, intellectual disability nursing, health studies, public health and social studies. The new Centre for Lifelong Learning based at St Angela’s College, Sligo (www.cll.ie) also offers a wide range of programmes, courses and skills training for adults in a flexible and blended learning format, tailored to suit individual and/or an organisation’s needs.

VEC LogoCounty Sligo VEC is one of thirty three Vocational Education Committees operating within the State and has responsibility for delivering a range of services including second-level education, adult and further education and other support services to young people and adults within County Sligo.

County Sligo VEC, provides a wide range of education and training, support services and special projects in addition to the support of Boards of Management of its schools and colleges. Adult Education is a major responsibility. We identify and meet the needs of specific target groups such as homemakers, people seeking to return to work, unemployed persons and the education and training of members of the travelling community. Basic Education Programmes including Literacy, Community Education, Guidance, Arts Education, Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS), Post-Leaving Certificate Courses and Back to Education programmes are offered at various locations throughout the county. Third-Level Student Grant Scheme, School Transport, Youthreach Centre, Youth Affairs, Outdoor Education encompassing Sailing are areas that also fall within the remit of the VEC.

County Sligo VEC is a community of learners where the educational needs of our neighbours and the children of our neighbours are catered for. We set high standards, high achievement and provide quality learner friendly educational programmes..

FAS logo FAS As the National Training and Employment Authority, FÁS North West anticipates the needs of, and responds to, a constantly changing labour market in County Sligo. Through its network of regional offices and training centre in Sligo, FÁS operates training and employment programmes; provides a recruitment service to jobseekers and employers, an advisory service for industry, and supports community-based enterprises

In order for employees to have the right skills and qualifications, FÁS offers training courses suited to every need, including Traineeships, which combine formal training with workplace coaching, which are developed in consultation with employers and trade unions, and are tailored to the needs of Irish industry and local business. FÁS offers dedicated services aimed at giving individuals an opportunity to participate in community life through community based work experience and training programmes. There are also Job Clubs where people can actively develop skills for job-hunting detailed in Communities.

FÁS also provide Information on training opportunities for people with disabilities or special needs, including Specialist Training Providers as well as social inclusion programmes, such as Women Returning to Work.
